Odoshiwe Village
About Odoshiwe Village.
Odoshiwe Village is one of the prominent villages in Amiyi-Akah Autonomous Community, deeply rooted in history, culture, unity, and progress.
The village traces its ancestral origin to Umunkuta, a revered forefather who happens to be the elderest amongst the 14 brothers that made up the 14 villages of Amiyi-Akah. He also gave birth to two sons, Duruaro, the first son, and Odoshiwe, the second son. From Odoshiwe sprang a strong lineage that has continued to thrive across generations.
Odoshiwe, the progenitor of the village, was married and blessed with four sons, namely Durujiakor, Durunnaji, Unamba, and Ahanoba. These four sons became the foundational pillars upon which Odoshiwe Village was built, and their descendants form the core families of the village today.
Historically, Odoshiwe Village holds the position of being the second village among the fourteen villages that make up Amiyi-Akah Autonomous Community. Over the years, the village has grown significantly and is now recognized as one of the most populated villages in the community.
Culturally, Odoshiwe is firmly anchored in ancient customs, traditions, and values, harmoniously blended with modern religious practices. The people of Odoshiwe share a strong sense of identity, unity, and common ancestry, which continues to bind them together as one people.
In terms of religion, Odoshiwe Village is predominantly Christian, with a strong presence of Catholic faith practices. A notable religious and cultural event is the annual New Year celebration, observed every 1st of January. This day is marked by a church service or Holy Mass, followed by the renewal of ancestral oaths at Ama ocha Umunkuta, a sacred tradition inherited from their forefathers.
Odoshiwe is also renowned for its rich agricultural productivity. The fertile land yields abundant farm produce such as yam, cassava, cocoyam, palm fruits, and other crops, making agriculture a major occupation and source of livelihood for the people.
The village is peace loving, law abiding, and respectful of constituted authorities, contributing greatly to harmony and development within Amiyi Akah Autonomous Community.
Cultural life in Odoshiwe is vibrant, highlighted by the annual OGHU Festival, which begins in June and ends in August. This festival, celebrated at the village square, showcases the people’s cultural heritage through traditional rites, music, dance, and communal bonding.
Socially, Odoshiwe Village maintains strong organizational structures. The village holds its general meetings every third Monday of the month, alongside other social and developmental activities aimed at fostering unity and progress. The village is home to individuals across upper, middle, and lower social classes, reflecting a balanced and inclusive society.
